Pure Argon vs Argon Mixture Gas: Which gas to use when welding?
May 7, 2020
In this video, we explain the correct gas to use when either MIG or TIG welding.
TIG Welding requires pure Argon gas, which produces a clean weld with no oxidisation.
MIG Welding requires an Argon-CO2 mixture for higher penetration and heat.
The purpose of the gas in the MIG process is to protect/shield the wire, the arc and the molten weld metal from the atmosphere. Argon-C02 mix gas offers better weldability for thin metals and has a wider range of setting tolerance on the machine. Argon 80% / Co2 20% is a good all-round mix suitable for most applications.
