The Thoriated Tungsten Electrodes (AWS & ISO classification EWTh-2) contain a minimum of 97.3% tungsten and 1.7%-2.2% thorium and are called 2% thoriated.
- These tungstens pose a low-level radioactive hazard when exposed to the lungs via vapour or grinding dust.
- Will only run on DC
- Good arc starts with a very stable arc
- Operates below its melting point, which improves its lifespan significantly
- No tungsten spitting for less chance of weld contamination
- Maintains a sharpened point
